According to Ukrainian officials, Russian forces launched a barrage of drone attacks on Kyiv before dawn on Sunday for the first time in nearly two weeks.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., air-raid alarms rang in the capital, Kyiv. Later, explosions were reported.
Serhiy Popko, the director of the city’s military administration, stated that all drones in Kiev’s airspace were destroyed by air defenses. It was the first time in twelve days that Russian forces had targeted the capital with Iranian-made attack drones, he said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app.
According to a statement issued on Telegram by the local military administration, debris from downed drones caused property damage to three residences in the Kyiv region. In addition, a male sustained a leg injury in one of these residences.
The overnight attacks occurred as Ukraine’s military reported “heavy combat” on the front lines in the east, where Kyiv’s forces are conducting a counteroffensive to recapture territory captured by Russia.
Russia Attacks Kyiv With Drones, Cruise Missiles
Overnight, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched a total of eight Iranian-made Shahed-136 attack drones and three cruise missiles, all of which were annihilated. Since its full-scale invasion began in February 2022, Russia has repeatedly launched nocturnal drone attacks on Kiev.
According to the local military administration, it was also a “loud” night in the Ukrainian-controlled portions of southern Kherson. A 13-year-old was injured in a Russian attack on the village of Mylove, according to Oleksandr Tolokonnikov, a spokesman for the regional military administration who spoke on national television. The claim has not been verified independently.
