After being charged with burglary and criminal trespass on Saturday, one of the five members of the Georgia mayor’s City Council who had sued him this year took temporary office.
Saturday morning at 6:52 a.mThe homeowner on Cascade Palmetto Highway called the police to report a trespasser; South Fulton Mayor Khalid Kamau was there.
According to the victim, Kamau repeatedly yelled at him while he was on the phone with the police, asking angrily,“Do you know who the f–k I am? I’m the mayor, and I’ll wait for my police to get here and see what happens then,”
The mayor told police that he had stopped by the house on his route to a dog park because it was his “dream home” and he hoped to buy it someday.
Kamau told FOX 5 Atlanta he thought the house was “abandoned,” but he later admitted to police that he knew he was trespassing on private property.
Unnamed homeowner claims he observed the mayor go up his driveway and approach his lake house, prompting him to hurry out of his truck and call the police.
According to the complaint, the homeowner then confronted Kamau, warned the mayor to stay put, and held him at gunpoint until police arrived.
The mayor of South Fulton, Georgia, Khalid Kamau, has been arrested and charged with trespassing and burglary. The surety bonds he posted got him out of jail the same day.
According to Atlanta’s NBC affiliate WXIA, he was also mandated to undergo a mental health evaluation.
Sunday, the city’s public affairs director declined to offer details, citing a “ongoing investigation,” which the police department had referred to them.

Replacing Kamau as Mayor
Natasha Williams-Brown, a member of the City Council and the current mayor pro tem, will take over for Kamau as acting mayor, according to WXIA. She assured the radio station that business as usual would be maintained while she assumed the role of mayor.
In March, Williams-Brown and four other council members filed a lawsuit to have Kamau removed from office. According to the case files, only two council members chose to stay neutral.
Kamau and the council have had a tense relationship for over a year. After discovering questionable charges on Kamau’s city-issued credit card during an audit in June 2022, the council formally requested an inquiry by the district attorney’s office.
