Thirty migrants, who endured a 30-hour bus journey, arrived in downtown Los Angeles to a warm reception from local authorities, aid group workers, and nonprofit organizations.
The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics and members of the L.A. Welcomes Collective were on hand to provide immediate assistance.
The migrants were then transported to St. Anthony’s Croatian Catholic Church, where a makeshift center was established to aid in family reunifications and access to social services.
This collaborative effort between local government agencies, nonprofits, and faith organizations exemplifies a commitment to providing humane and compassionate support for asylum seekers.
Los Angeles City and county, along with the L.A. Welcomes Collective, worked together to execute a plan that had been established earlier in the year.
Recognizing the importance of offering assistance to recently arrived asylum seekers, the collective provided limited support services such as food, clothing, and legal immigration consultations upon their arrival.
The focus was on facilitating family reunions and ensuring access to necessary resources.

The Importance of Humanitarian Services
Gloria Cruz, the policy and advocacy director for the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, highlighted the significance of providing humanitarian services and reliable information about immigration laws to newly arrived migrants.
Regardless of their origin, mode of transportation, or intent, the collective aims to receive asylum seekers with dignity and respect.
The commitment to maximizing limited resources reflects the collective’s dedication to the humane and compassionate integration of migrants into society.
This recent arrival of migrants from Texas follows a similar event on July 1 when another bus carrying asylum seekers reached downtown Los Angeles.
The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights reported that 41 asylum seekers, including 11 children, were on that bus.
These successive arrivals underscore the ongoing need for collaborative efforts to support migrants and provide them with the necessary resources and services they require.
The response from Los Angeles reflects the power of community collaboration.
Local government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and faith groups have come together to ensure the successful reception and support of asylum seekers.
By combining their efforts and resources, they strive to create a welcoming environment where migrants are treated with dignity and have access to the services they need as they navigate their journey toward a new life.
