The latest Russian attacks in Odesa and other southern Ukrainian port cities were denounced by assistant secretary-general Mohamed Khaled Khiari in a solemn speech to the UN Official.
He demanded an immediate end to such violent acts and warned that they portend a disastrous turn in the ongoing fight, calling them the latest casualties in what he called a senseless and deadly war.
Khiari highlighted her serious concern about the strikes directly targeting Ukraine’s grain export facilities during the briefing on Ukraine. He made it clear that these attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are wholly unacceptable and must stop right away.
A recent episode on Sunday, when a Russian attack damaged a famous cathedral in Odesa after three nights of non stop attacks on the city and other ports in the area, brought home how serious the situation is.
Unsettling allegations of more Russian attacks on port infrastructure, including grain storage facilities, in the Danube River ports of Reni and Izmail have exacerbated the problem.

UN’s Grave Assessment of Ukraine’s Situation
The transportation of Ukrainian grain through these ports is essential for feeding the millions of people who depend on having access to affordable food worldwide.
Khiari also brought up Russia’s decision to back out of a UN-mediated wartime agreement that permitted the transport of grain from Ukraine to nations in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
This action, which was roundly criticized by the West, made the poor situation even worse and sparked worries about possible food shortages.
The UN representative emphasized the seriousness of these recent occurrences, suggesting a troubling and disastrous turn for the world as a whole as well as for the people of Ukraine.
The attacks on crucial infrastructure have exacerbated the humanitarian catastrophe and further aggravated the already destructive conflict, which coincides with Russia’s exit from the Black Sea Initiative.
