Two shoppers were fatally shot, and the suspect was killed after exchanging gunfire with police outside the supermarket. The incident also left two police officers injured, one of whom is still hospitalized but stable.

The shooting started around 5:30 p.m. when a 911 call alerted police about an active shooter. When officers arrived, they found two people already dead inside the store. Outside, the suspect engaged in a shootout with police, resulting in the suspect’s death and injuries to the officers. One officer has since been released from the hospital, while the other continues to recover.

Elkhart Police Chief Dan Milanese called the incident a “horrific tragedy” and offered condolences to the families of the victims. Mayor Rod Roberson urged the community to come together, saying, “This has shaken all of us. We need to support one another during such a painful time.”
