A 37-year-old Sudan-born man is set to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court today (January 29, 2025) after being charged with failing to comply with his visa-mandated reporting conditions.

Court Appearance for Visa Violation

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) charged the man on January 28, 2025, after locating him in Brisbane. Authorities allege that between January 4, 2025, and January 27, 2025, the man violated a condition of his Commonwealth visa by failing to report as required.

Legal Implications and Charges

The man has been charged with one count of failing to comply with a requirement of the monitoring condition, in violation of section 76B (1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth). This offense carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and/or a fine of $93,900.
