Medical jet was in Opa-locka before fiery crash in Northeast Philadelphia: Flight data

According to flight data, the medical plane that crashed shortly after takeoff in Northeast Philadelphia had been in Opa-locka earlier Friday before heading to Pennsylvania.

FlightAware data revealed that the Learjet 55 departed Opa-locka Executive Airport around noon and arrived at Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE) about 2 p.m.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the aeroplane departed PNE after 6 p.m. and was on its route to Springfield-Branson National Airport, Missouri. The jet crashed immediately after departure.

Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, which provides global air ambulance services, stated that six persons, including a juvenile ill, were on board. The girl was treated for a life-threatening condition in the United States.

She was returning to Tijuana, Mexico. On the plane were her mother, a pilot, a copilot, a doctor, and a paramedic. Jet Rescue Air Ambulance does not believe any of the passengers survived the plane crash.

The incident occurred fewer than three miles from the airport, which handles mostly corporate jets and charter aircraft. Photos from the crash site appear to show residential structures on fire. A doorbell camera got images of the plane plummeting in a white streak and exploding as it crashed near a shopping mall and a major highway.

The jet crashed at a major junction near Roosevelt Mall, an outdoor shopping facility.

According to the FAA, the investigation will be led by the National Transportation Safety Board. The NTSB, which investigates air mishaps, stated that it was gathering information about the disaster.

The incident occurred barely two days after the United States’ greatest flying disaster in a generation. On Wednesday night, an American Airlines flight carrying 60 passengers and four crew members crashed with an Army helicopter carrying three soldiers in midair over Washington, D.C. There were no survivors in the crash.
