A major winter storm has blanketed northern Minnesota, bringing heavy snowfall and strong gusts, according to the National Weather Service in Duluth. The National Weather Service in Duluth predicts snow accumulation ranging from 2 to 6 inches, with greater totals of 4 to 8 inches around the North Shore owing to increased lake effect snowfall.

A low-pressure system heading north-northeast from South Dakota is driving this snowstorm. Snow will continue through Saturday night before tapering off Sunday as a warm front approaches. Gusty southeast winds might cause blowing and drifting snow, decreasing visibility, particularly around the North Shore.
A midweek storm on Wednesday or Thursday could bring further snow to central Minnesota and northern Wisconsin, as well as colder temperatures, with lows below zero by Monday night.
