Josh Allen’s MVP Win Shakes Up the NFL: Here’s Why He Deserved It

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has been named the 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP), capping off a remarkable season in which he led his team to another deep playoff run. The award, presented at the NFL Honors ceremony in New Orleans, solidifies Allen’s place as one of the league’s elite quarterbacks.

This is Allen’s first MVP win, making him only the third player in Bills history to receive the prestigious honour, joining Hall of Famers O.J. Simpson (1973) and Thurman Thomas (1991).

A Season of Dominance

Allen’s performance throughout the 2024 season showcased his ability to dominate both in the air and on the ground. He finished the year with:

  • 3,731 passing yards
  • 28 touchdown passes
  • Only six interceptions
  • 12 rushing touchdowns, proving his status as a true dual-threat quarterback

His leadership propelled the Bills to another AFC Championship appearance, where they fell short against the Kansas City Chiefs in a nail-biting 32-29 loss.

A Tight MVP Race

The battle for the MVP title was one of the most competitive in recent years. Allen received 18 first-place votes, barely edging out Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who finished just behind him with 17 first-place votes.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was also in contention, securing two first-place votes.

Despite the close competition, Allen’s ability to carry the Bills’ offence and deliver in big moments gave him the edge in the final voting.

Emotional Acceptance Speech

During his MVP acceptance speech, Allen expressed deep gratitude to his teammates, the Buffalo Bills organization, and his family.

He gave a special shout-out to his fiancée, Hollywood actress Hailee Steinfeld, thanking her for her support throughout the season. The couple, who announced their engagement in November 2024, have been together since May 2023.

“This award is bigger than me. It’s about my coaches, teammates, and the fans in Buffalo who’ve supported me every step of the way,” Allen said.

What’s Next for Allen and the Bills?

Despite falling short of a Super Bowl appearance, Allen remains focused on bringing a championship to Buffalo. The Bills are expected to reload in the offseason, making key adjustments to push for a Super Bowl run in 2025.

With Allen at the helm, Buffalo fans have plenty to be excited about as they look ahead to the next chapter in his already impressive career.
