The family of 78-year-old Diana Truschke experienced a devastating loss on a Las Vegas trip. An apparently broken rotating door slammed her to the ground, causing serious injuries that ultimately resulted in her death, ruining what should have been a routine departure from the Trump International Hotel. In an attempt to obtain justice, her family is now suing the hotel for negligence.
A Simple Walk Becomes a Nightmare
On March 21, 2023, Diana Truschke was staying at the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, a towering luxury hotel just off the Strip. Like any guest, she expected a comfortable stay and safe surroundings. But according to a lawsuit filed by her son, the hotelโs revolving door turned out to be anything but safe.
As Truschke attempted to exit the building, the lawsuit claims, the door suddenly spun with extreme force, striking her from behind and throwing her forward onto the pavement. The impact was so violent that she suffered severe injuries, including fractures and internal damage.
Bystanders rushed to help as she lay on the ground, stunned and in pain. An ambulance was called, and she was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors began what would be a long and difficult battle to save her.
Months of Suffering End in Tragedy
Despite undergoing extensive medical treatment, Truschke never fully recovered. Her health deteriorated over time, and on October 14, 2024โmore than a year after the incidentโshe passed away due to complications related to her injuries.
For her family, her death was more than just a terrible accident. They believe it was the direct result of the hotel’s negligence.
Familyโs Fight for Accountability
In the wrongful death lawsuit, filed on March 18, 2025, Truschkeโs son argues that the Trump International Hotel failed to maintain its revolving door properly, putting guests at risk. The lawsuit alleges that hotel management either knew or should have known that the door was malfunctioning but failed to fix it.
โThis wasnโt just bad luck,โ the familyโs attorney said in a statement. โThis was preventable. Dianaโs life was cut short because the hotel didnโt do what they were supposed toโkeep their guests safe.โ
The family is seeking damages for medical expenses, funeral costs, and the emotional pain of losing a loved one. But beyond financial compensation, they say their goal is to hold the hotel accountable and ensure that no other family has to endure a similar tragedy.
Hotel Management Remains Silent
As of now, Trump International Hotel has not publicly responded to the lawsuit. The hotel, which stands as one of Las Vegasโ few non-gaming luxury resorts, is managed by the Trump Organization, currently run by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump.
With the case now in court, the hotel may soon have to address the claims head-on.
Are Hotels Doing Enough to Protect Guests?
This tragic incident raises larger concerns about guest safety in hotels. Revolving doors are common in high-end establishments, but they require careful maintenance to ensure they function safely.
When hotels cut corners or fail to inspect equipment regularly, guests can unknowingly be put in harmโs way. For Truschkeโs family, the cost of that negligence was devastating.
They hope their lawsuit will serve as a wake-up callโnot just for Trump International but for the entire hospitality industry. No one should lose a loved one over something as simple as walking out the front door.
