77-year-old Delray-area man killed in a crash at the intersection of Jog Road and Oriole Boulevard

A tragic accident occurred in Delray Beach on Monday, April 10, 2023, where a 77-year-old man lost his life. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was riding a mobility scooter and was hit by a Honda Civic at the intersection of South Jog Road and South Oriole Boulevard.

Details of the accident

The accident happened at 2:16 pm, and the victim, identified as Robert M. Kleinzweig, was attempting to cross the intersection from west to east in a marked pedestrian crosswalk. The driver of the Honda Civic, a 68-year-old woman, was driving southbound on Jog Road, approaching the intersection in the inside lane. The sheriff’s office report stated that Kleinzweig crossed directly within the car’s lane of travel, violating its right of way. During the collision, the front of the car impacted the scooter, and Kleinzweig was “vaulted into the air,” along with his scooter. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Palm Beach Fire Rescue paramedics. The driver of the Honda stopped near the scene and was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Legal proceedings

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report did not indicate any charges pending in the case. However, investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.
