China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, called for a clear signal of regrouping towards cooperation and resistance against “the coercion of bullying and domination” during a forum organized by the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat.
Although Wang did not mention the United States directly, his remarks are seen as a swipe at the US as it strengthens ties with Japan and South Korea to counter China’s growing influence in the region.
Wang underlined the value of reviving China, Japan, and South Korea’s collaboration and encouraging a sense of strategic autonomy while upholding regional cohesion and stability.
He urged the three countries to resist the return to Cold War mentality and avoid falling victim to external coercion.
Wang emphasized the need for conversation and consultation during his speech at the gathering in Qingdao, opposing any words or acts that would raise tensions and cause violence in the area.
He called for accelerating talks on free trade zones and facilitating smoother trade among the neighboring countries.
