Devastating News: Jet Ski Accident Claims the Life of Former Tennessee Senator Roy Herron

Former Tennessee State Senator Roy Herron, a prominent figure in state politics and a beloved community leader, has tragically died after sustaining serious injuries in a jet ski incident. 

The collision occurred on Kentucky Lake at Panther Bay on July 1, resulting in injuries to Herron and the driver of the jet ski he was riding. 

The 69-year-old Dresden native was rushed to medical centers for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.

Herron leaves behind a legacy of public service, mentorship, and dedication to improving the lives of Tennesseans.

Roy Herron, hailing from Dresden, was elected to the state House of Representatives in 1986, serving for ten years before his notable 16-year tenure in the state Senate. 

Additionally, he held the distinguished position of chairman of the Tennessee Democratic Party. 

Herron’s diverse professional background extended beyond politics, encompassing roles as an attorney, businessman, professional speaker, educator, author, and former United Methodist minister. 

His academic achievements included graduating from the University of Tennessee in 1975 and earning Master of Divinity and Juris Doctor degrees from Vanderbilt University in 1980.
