DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA – Although National Hamburger Day was a month ago (May 28th), it is July 4th weekend, and that means barbecues and grilled burgers will be in hand from sea to shining sea, including Delray Beach.
It has been reported that in 1891, Bowden, Oklahoma saw the first documented appearance of flame-grilled beef patties in a sourdough bun, created by Oscar Weber Wilby and his wife Fanny to celebrate the Fourth of July.
Today burgers seem as American as apple pie, and for those not cooking at home, there are some amazing options in Delray Beach to grab hold of an amazing hamburger – any day of the year.
Park Tavern – 32 SE 2nd Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33444
Described as ‘sophisticated, brick-walled American tavern with a roomy patio, plus craft beer, wine and cocktails.’ This burger mecca is a downtown Delray favorite, from the same team as Cut 432 Steakhouse and El Camino. Prices are moderate and they are open from 4PM to 11PM every night, and weekends 11AM to 3PM as well.
Alison Wojtowicz of Instagram the_delray_foodie says, “The competition for burgers in Delray is like no other. Among all of the great options, my favorite has to be Park Tavern. In my opinion, there is nothing better than enjoying great food, amazing service, and unique craft drinks all while sitting outside along Atlantic Avenue.”
“At the risk of sounding cliche every burger at Park Tavern is amazing!” Wojtowicz says. “Although not currently on the menu (hoping it comes back soon), my all time favorite is the Short Rib Burger with a fried egg and slice of bacon on top.”
“However, the Tavern Burger is a close runner up with a homemade super juicy patty, fantastic topping options and a toasted bun. Plus, the fresh hand cut fries on the side make any burger on that menu a homerun!”
Deck 84 – 840 E Atlantic Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33483
Described as ‘stylish American spot with views of the Intracoastal, a hopping bar, weekend brunch and outdoor seats.’ Their marque burger is the “Prime Deck Burger” a special blend of beef, lettuce, vine ripe tomato, fried egg, applewood bacon, American cheese, crispy onion, truffle aioli. Prices are moderate and they are open from 12PM to 9PM every night (weekends until 10PM), and they open at 10:30 AM on Sunday.
Dada – 52 N Swinton Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33444
Part of the Sub-Culture restaurant group, Dada has a lot going on, ‘set inside an offbeat old house, this American cafe features a tree-filled patio and live music.’ While not a burger-centric menu, their “Dada Burger” comes with all the fixings including their secret sauce, on a brioche bun and will not disappoint. Prices are moderate and they are open from 5PM to 12AM Midnight every night (weekends until 2AM).
Gary Rack’s Farmhouse Kitchen – 204 E Atlantic Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33444
This arm of Gary Rack’s offers ‘grass-fed steaks, bison meatloaf and organic salads served in a rustic-chic setup with outdoor tables,’ and their “Buffalo Burger” may be a little eccentric for the purist, but with cheddar cheese, balsamic onions, pear and add some smoked bacon, its a crowd pleaser. Prices are moderate-to-high, and they are open from 11AM to 10PM every night (weekends until 11PM).
BurgerFi – 6 S Ocean Blvd, Delray Beach, FL 33483
We needed at least one pick with “burger” in the name, and this is a ‘stylish, eco-minded chain serving grass-fed beef burgers, plus hot dogs, craft beer & wine.’ They recently opened their third location in Delray Beach, and with a fast casual approach, is a great option for a quick fix. Prices are affordable and the Ocean Blvd location is open from 11AM to 10PM every night.
There are a number of other great burger options in Delray Beach, the Village by the Sea is a big pond when it comes to great food.
