The Online painting course, Discovering Abstract Painting, is taught by Sally Cooper, image recreation.

The course description offers to ‘explore your creative self and open your mind to the possibilities of working with new methods, taking risks, painting intuitively and allowing chance to create a breakthrough. Artistic originality is encouraged in a light atmosphere where “mistakes” can be turned into masterpieces.’

The instructor, Sally Cooper, shares, “My work is about a creative process rather than a specific image or place. Working intuitively and enjoying the direct experience of the art-making process, the spontaneity and surprise elements of painting is the most inspiring and rewarding thing about abstract painting. You learn to listen to your inner voice and make the unexpected take center stage.”

In regard to how the virtual class rooms work with art courses, Cooper explained, “The students are able to work in the comfort and relaxation of their own home and yet be a part of a group classroom process. They are able to receive handouts, watch a live painting demonstration, ask questions, receive answers and then paint in the quiet comfort of their home.”

Adding, “It is my feeling that this is a very unique environment which many people have not experienced and that this new paradigm shift in learning will become the new norm for classroom learning.”

The Creative Arts School is located on the second floor of the Crest Theatre building at 51 N Swinton Ave, Delray Beach. The School offers beginner through master level classes, for all ages, during fall/winter and spring/summer sessions.

Art classes include drawing, painting, watercolor, pastel, collage and mixed media. Photography classes include introduction to digital camera use, fine art photography (beginning/intermediate/advanced/master) and digital imaging. Writing classes include creative writing (fiction/nonfiction), memoir writing and critique groups.

More online classes are coming soon, and registration will open Monday, June 8th for the second term (June 15th through July 12th).

As far as fully reopening in the physical location and classrooms, Morgan said “The date for reopening has yet to be determined, but we will be back with more class offerings than ever!”

Old School Square, a National Historic Site provides the greater Delray Beach community and South Florida with visual and performing arts, entertainment and enrichment. The center combines historic preservation and the arts, and considered a catalyst for the 1990’s renaissance of downtown Delray Beach.
