Finding Five of the Best Sushi and Japanese Options in Delray Beach

Posted on May 30, 2022June 2, 2022 by Amelia

There are a number of great sushi and Japanese options in Delray Beach, the Village by the Sea is a big pond when it comes to great food.

DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA – It is reported that sushi (which refers to the seasoned rice on which raw fish is served) was originally sold as street food in Japan starting around the 8th century. Sushi restaurants opened in America as early as 1950, and the cuisine has carved out a place on American tables, including Delray Beach.

The main ingredient is fresh raw fish, and with all the bounty a Village by the Sea offers, it’s no wonder there are a number of great sushi options.

Beg For More Izakaya

Beg For More Izakaya – 19 SE 5th Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33483
An ‘Izakaya’ is a type of Japanese restaurant, compared to Iris pubs, tapas bars and early American saloons, traditionally more drinking houses with a menu of small dishes. This eatery is not skimping on the food though, with a full menu from salads to sushi and more. Prices are moderate and they are open from 4PM to 2AM every night.

Alison Wojtowicz of Instagram the_delray_foodie says, “With all of the great restaurants in Delray, Beg For More Izakaya could be a spot that many pass by without noticing.”

“For me I found it very intriguing. Off the beaten path of Atlantic Ave, Beg for More is truly a hidden gem,” she confides. “The food is unique, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Not only is the service good, but there is a great energy in the atmosphere that makes being there truly a great experience. Not to mention a little Sake after dinner never hurts!”

Wojtowicz adds, “My favorite dish here is the spicy tuna roll. In my opinion, this simple roll can also be one of the easiest to mess up. However, Beg For More masters the flavors and manages to make it a stand out dish.”

Yama Japanese Restaurant

Yama Japanese Restaurant – 200 NE 2nd Ave #110, Delray Beach, FL 33444
Described as a ‘relaxed eatery offering a wide range of sushi & Japanese dishes, plus some Korean & Thai options’, this upmarket eatery is on the normally buzzing Pineapple Grove strip, however a monstrous construction site across the road has dampened the charm at the moment.

Still, a few months ago a reviewer wrote “Great food! Eat in for good service and expert sushi chefs that are fun to watch.” Prices are on the high side of moderate, and they are open for lunch from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and dinner from 4PM to 10PM.

Price is slightly higher which covers the ambiance and energy of E. Atlantic Avenue. Mid-to-high price, open for lunch and dinner (later than most) and offer pickup or delivery.

Nana Noodles and Sushi Bar

Ordered several sushi rolls and each was fresh and very tasty.” Midrange price, open for lunch and dinner and offer pickup or delivery.
