In 2020 and 2021, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government doled out three large stimulus payouts, which garnered most of the media attention. However, many states also offered tax rebates and other stimulus initiatives.
The majority of the stimulus funds provided by states have already been dispersed, and the application deadlines for receiving them have long since passed. Here is a look at the states that will still be receiving stimulus funding in July of 2023.
Illinois
The Illinois Department of Revenue said that the deadline to apply for the Illinois Income Tax Rebate and the Illinois Property Tax Rebate was October 17, 2022. Those debts have largely been settled. The state comptroller has assured us, however, that we will receive our payments in full and on time.
Montana
Montanans may receive a property tax rebate of up to $675 and an income tax credit of up to $2,500 for joint filers ($1,250 for other classes) or their state tax due, whichever is less. In July 2023, the Montana Business & Income Tax Division will refund personal income taxes. These reimbursements will be processed in order by 2023.
Taxpayers can complete a paper form or use the agency’s TransAction Portal to get a 2022 property tax refund starting August 15, 2023. Claim by October 1, 2023. On August 15, 2024, the state will begin accepting refund requests for 2023. The deadline is October 1, 2024.
New Mexico
New Mexico taxpayers can pick between two rebates in 2023. Single filers receive $500, while married couples filing jointly receive $1,000. The New Mexico Department of Taxation & Revenue gives citizens until May 31, 2024 to file a 2021 personal income tax return.
New Mexicans who don’t qualify for refunds receive help. As of early July, the agency hadn’t declared the compensation amount despite setting aside $15 million. Apply to Human Services. Payments will be made by July 2023.

Idaho
In 2022, the state of Idaho issued tax refunds in March and “Special Session Rebates” in September. According to the Idaho State Tax Commission, the majority of rebate payments for 2022 have already been given out, but the agency will continue to send out more when individuals file their taxes and become eligible. Where’s My Rebate? is a tool available at tax.idaho.gov/rebate that will let you know the current whereabouts of your rebate.
