A 44-year-old mother from Cary, North Carolina, has been missing for over a week after disappearing during a beach vacation on the Caribbean island of Grenada, leaving her family desperate for answers.
Liz Waddell was last seen on July 22 near Grand Anse Beach, where she was staying at a rental property with a close friend. According to a longtime family friend, Amanda Romano-Harmon, Waddell had gone out for a swim around midday while her friend was occupied with an online class.
“When she got through with her course, she looked up and she didn’t see Liz outside,” Romano-Harmon said, recalling how the friend stepped out to search the area and found only Waddell’s towel left behind on the pier.
Waddell had left her phone behind, and within hours her husband, Cailen, received a call back home informing him she couldn’t be reached. A missing persons report was filed with local authorities shortly after.
Friends describe Waddell as an experienced and enthusiastic traveler with a passion for hiking and exploring new places, someone unlikely to wander off without telling anyone.
“Liz has the adventure bug. She loves to travel, and there’s not a hike she didn’t like that she wanted to try,” Romano-Harmon said.
Complicating the search, Waddell’s family says a description circulated by island authorities does not match her actual appearance. Officials reportedly listed her with pink hair, while she is actually blonde and stands five feet tall — a discrepancy the family fears could hinder identification efforts.
“No detail is too small,” Romano-Harmon pleaded. “If you know anything at all that could lead us to her whereabouts, please contact the officials on the poster.”
