PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A 23-year-old man remains hospitalized and unable to speak after being shot by a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy earlier this month, according to statements made by his attorney in court.
The man, identified as Alexander Bucspun, was shot during a confrontation with law enforcement on July 15. Deputies opened fire after Bucspun allegedly pointed an air gun at them.
During a court hearing held Monday morning, Bucspun’s attorney asked the judge to modify the conditions of his release in case he is able to post bond. The attorney told the court that Bucspun was shot in the eye and in the brain during the incident and has not regained the ability to speak since.
The judge agreed to modify the release conditions. However, Bucspun’s cash bond will stay the same at $80,000.
Bucspun is currently facing four charges: three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The case remains ongoing, and further hearings are expected as Bucspun continues to recover from his injuries.
