Ukrainian Counteroffensive At Risk, GOP Trio Urges Missile Deployment

According to Republican legislators who support greater weapons help, President Joe Biden’s decision to arm Ukraine with cluster bombs comes as Kyiv confronts the prospect of failing in their much-anticipated counteroffensive.

The Biden administration cannot stop here, said House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) in a joint statement with the top Senate Republicans in charge of US diplomatic and defense affairs.

This administration’s foolish fear of escalation in providing crucial military systems has only served to prolong the war, encourage Vladimir Putin, cost Ukrainian lives, and, indeed, put the entire Ukrainian counteroffensive at risk of failure.

The cluster munitions remark is the latest example of Biden accepting a weapons transfer after months of ignoring Ukrainian pleas.

Nonetheless, the long-awaited step sparked renewed calls for Biden to provide long-range missiles to Ukraine, which is using such weapons to attack Russian supply routes and arsenal stockpiles.

It is difficult to execute a defense operation without long-range weapons, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated Friday during a visit to the Czech Republic. In other words, the opponent has a distance advantage.

According to Republican legislators who support greater weapons help, President Joe Biden’s decision to arm Ukraine with cluster bombs comes as Kyiv confronts the prospect of failing in their much-anticipated counteroffensive.

That is why, in my opinion, it is critical not just for offensive but also defensive and offensive military actions.

Despite the lack of a significant advance, Ukrainian officials have voiced far more confidence in the efficiency of their counteroffensive.

Ukrainian Gen. Valerie Zaluzhni, the top commander of the Ukrainian armed forces, stated in a video posted Friday during a trip to the front lines that everything is going to play out.

Another top Ukrainian general claimed that Russia is suffering eight to ten times the losses in terms of troops killed.

Even if that figure exaggerates the trade, Ukrainian officials have persuaded their partners that they are carrying out a well-planned and effective military strategy to minimize their own losses.
