A van crashed into a senior living facility late Sunday night in Galloway Township, New Jersey, causing a fire that briefly displaced residents before crews quickly brought the situation under control.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. at Ridgewood Senior Living on the 700 block of East Moss Mill Road.
How It Unfolded
Emergency crews initially responded to reports of a car fire in the parking lot. When firefighters arrived, they found the van pressed against the building with fire beginning to spread.
According to Oceanville Assistant Fire Chief Chuck Yuhle, the van caught fire before making contact with the building. The facility’s structural integrity was inspected and deemed safe.
Residents Safely Evacuated
As a precaution, residents were moved away from smoke-affected areas of the building. Once the fire was brought under control, all residents were allowed to return to their rooms.
Viva Senior Living, the company that owns the facility, confirmed in a statement that residents were “safely relocated to another area of the community” during the emergency response.
All residents and employees are safe and accounted for. No one from the facility required medical transport.
Driver Taken to Hospital
The driver of the van was transported to a nearby hospital following the crash. Their condition remains unknown at this time.

The cause of the crash has not yet been officially determined. Authorities have not released the identity of the driver or further details about what led to the vehicle striking the building.
