Zelenskiy’s Visit To Snake Island As Russian Rockets Strike Eastern Ukraine

In order to commemorate 500 days of hostilities, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy released a video on Saturday showing him touring Snake Island in the Black Sea. Zelenskyy was in Turkey on Saturday, so it’s unclear when the video was shot.

We are currently on Zmiany Island, which, like the entirety of Ukraine, will never be occupied because we are a brave nation, according to Zelenskyy in the video. On the island, he placed flowers at a memorial before releasing wreaths into the water.

Because of their ferocious response to Russian troops who demanded surrender early in the conflict, soldiers on the island became legends.

Later, both the island and its Ukrainian defenders were taken by Russian forces. Later on, as part of a prisoner swap, those Ukrainian soldiers were released.

The small Russian garrison stationed there was extensively attacked by the Ukrainian military after it had taken control of the island, compelling them to withdraw on June 30, 2022.

The threat of a seaborne attack on the port city of Odessa was lessened as a result of the Russian retreat, which also made it easier to reach an agreement to resume Ukrainian grain shipments.I appreciate everyone battling for Ukraine, Zelenskyy stated.

The war rages on, with fierce fighting taking place all over Ukraine. Last month, Ukrainian forces launched a counteroffensive to retake areas in the east and south of the nation that were under Russian control.

After more than a month, they have only managed to retake a few hundred square kilometers and roughly a dozen communities in the face of strong Russian defense lines.

The Biden administration declared they will give Ukraine a divisive $800 million batch of cluster munitions.

The choice to supply cluster munitions comes as Ukraine’s counteroffensive against entrenched Russian forces is moving more slowly than anticipated due to a lack of ammunition.
