A woman accused of breaking into a fire station in West Boca Raton and stealing a vehicle is now behind bars after investigators used an Apple AirTag to track her down.
According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrest report filed with the Clerk of Courts, 36-year-old TaQuanna Iesha Vickers has been charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
How It Started
Investigators say the incident began in St. Lucie County, where Vickers allegedly stole a 2009 Cadillac STS from a convenience store in Fort Pierce. From there, she reportedly drove to Delray Beach, left the car behind, and continued on foot to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Station #52 on Pheasant Way in Boca Raton.
At the fire station, deputies say she broke into a Dodge Durango and took a wallet before entering a garage-like structure and driving away in a Honda Odyssey belonging to another victim. She later left the Odyssey near Hypoluxo Road and allegedly used one of the stolen credit cards to make a purchase worth $66.50 at a gas station.
The AirTag That Cracked the Case
One of the victims had an Apple AirTag attached to the wallet that was stolen. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office’s South Florida Criminal Apprehension Team used the device’s signal to locate Vickers, who was reportedly walking alone in the area at the time.
Investigators say they confirmed the AirTag’s location matched Vickers’ movements before approaching and taking her into custody. During the arrest, deputies recovered the stolen wallet, credit cards, a knife, a vape device, and other personal belongings.
Prior Record and Current Status
Court records show Vickers has previous theft-related arrests in Martin and Brevard counties. She is currently being held at the Palm Beach County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
