A series of intense storms will deliver heavy rain, mountain snow, and strong winds to Interior Northern California through next week, according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento.
Snowfall and Rainfall Totals
Currently, the region is seeing extensive rainfall, with the Sacramento Valley receiving 0.01 to 0.50 inches and the Northern Sacramento Valley and Coast Range receiving 1- 3 inches. The Sierra Nevada has seen 1 to 2 inches of rain and 5 to 10 inches of snow above 6,500 feet.
Travel Disruptions Expected
The West Slope of the Northern Sierra Nevada and Western Plumas County/Lassen Park are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 4 a.m. Sunday. A Flood Watch has also been issued for the Central Valley, foothills, and mountains below 6,500 feet owing to the possibility of mudslides and rock falls.
A colder storm expected Monday night will reduce snow levels to 3,000 feet in the Southern Cascades and 4,000 feet in the Sierra, bringing 1 to 3 feet of snow, with up to 4 feet on the highest summits.
The storms will be accompanied by strong south winds (25-40 mph in the valley and 40-55 mph in the mountains. Officials advise passengers to check road conditions at quickmap.ca.gov and weather updates at weather.gov before departing.
