ALEXANDRIA TOWNSHIP, New Jersey — A tiny bear cub is fighting her way back after being struck by a vehicle and left on the side of the road — and her recovery story is already winning hearts.
The juvenile cub was found unconscious along Rick Road in Alexandria Township. Witnesses acted fast and got her to help before it was too late.
From the Roadside to a Recovery Room
The 35-pound cub was first rushed to the Animal Hospital of Clinton-Perryville, where veterinarians ran a full round of tests.
The news could have been much worse.
Despite the impact, she had no broken bones and no internal injuries. She was, however, knocked completely unconscious and is now recovering from a concussion.
After initial treatment, she was transferred to Woodlands Wildlife Refuge in Pittstown, where her rehabilitation is now underway.
Meet Aurora — the Sleeping Beauty
Staff at the refuge gave the little cub a fitting nickname: Aurora, after the famous sleeping beauty.
The name stuck the moment they saw her — knocked out cold, but still breathing, still fighting.
“Thank you to everyone who acted quickly to get Aurora to Woodlands for care,” the refuge shared after her arrival. “Please keep her in your thoughts and send good healing vibes.”
Aurora still has a long road ahead, but she is in good hands.
A Reminder for Drivers
Bear activity near roads is common, especially with younger cubs that have not yet learned to navigate traffic.
Slowing down in wooded and rural areas — particularly at dawn and dusk — can make the difference between a story like Aurora’s and one with a far sadder ending.
